Babel Brad Pitt

The story of the Tower of Babel turns up in Hebrew and Muslim texts, as well as the Bible, but the basic gist is that men tried to build a stairway to heaven and God subverted them by giving them different languages. They could no longer understand each other, so the whole construction fell apart. It's a powerful myth because it carries so many ideas: that there are two worlds and we got the lesser one; that God is spiteful; that cultural differences are the root of all our woes since then; even that crossing a border without permission will get you in a whole world of trouble. Some scholars believe the tower was in southern Iraq, or in Babylon itself. The tragedy of modern Iraq is never mentioned in this superb new film but I'm sure that's one of the things on the minds of the filmmakers, the same Mexican writer and director team behind Amores Perros and 21 Grams . The story of the tower works so well for what the film is about, which is that the relationship between rich...

Brad Pitt as a Role Model

Image
Real Name: Brad Pitt Profile: Actor Birthdate: December 18, 1963 Birthplace: Shawnee, Oklahoma Childhood Home: Springfield, Missouri. Brad grew up in a solid, Midwestern church-going family. Brad was a choirboy. Family: Oldest of three children. Younger brother Doug, sister Julie. His dad, Bill, was a former manager of a trucking company. His mom, Jane was a high school counselor. Brief Profile of a Role Model: Brad started out as a heart-throb type as a shoe-in for the title of "Sexiest Man Alive." But he challenges his stud image because, as he puts it, "One, it's boring, two, it's stupid, three, it's death. Heartthrobs are a dime a dozen." Most defining event of his life: With $325 in his pocket, he drove out to California in an old Datsun to try to make a go in the film industry. As a Role Model: Brad listens to his "voice within." It told him to leave college early. It told him to try acting. It told him to let Gwyneth Paltrow free of thei...

Meet the newest additions, Knox and Vivienne, to the Jolie-Pitt clan!

How cute are they, right? Of course they are, they belong to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, so they’re going to be carbon copies of the prettiest people on the Earth, right? A source says that Hello! and People magazines split the $10-15 million so that they could premiere the first pictures of the Jolie-Pitt family with their newest additions. It’s being said that there are 30 pages of pictures in those issues of the magazines. As much as one would think Brangelina doesn’t like the paparazzi or cameras in their faces, that’s a heck of a lot of pictures. How cute is it that they let Shiloh hold one of the babies. She’s such a cute combination of the two of them. So I would have to wonder if little Knox will take after his dad and Vivienne will look like her mother.

Brat Pitt in Berlin German news: goes to Doctor, late dinner with cast Brad Pitt out at dinner last night with his castmates. The German press is closely following Brad Pitt’s every move, but he has only stepped out alone since arriving in Berlin Tuesday afternoon with his family. Angelina and the kids are probably holed up in that giant house. Pitt went to the doctor yesterday - it looked semi-urgent, but he went out afterwards. Brad Pitt went to an orthopedic doctor in Berlin’s Charlottenburg district yesterday. He was seen holding a large envelope on his way in which was presumed to have been X-Rays. It was thought to be urgent as he interrupted a meeting with Quentin Tarantino to go to the doctor, where he was for about a half an hour. Maybe he was just hanging out with Tarantino though and there was an opening at the doctor’s office so he took it. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
